Introduction

Translation　of　literature　is　not　a　mere　linguistic　transfer，　but　also

an　encounter　of　different　cultures　and　aesthetics.　When　it　comes　to　the

translation　of　English　literature　between　China　and　the　United　States，

the　task　becomes　even　more　complex　due　to　the　vast　differences　in

cultural，　historical，　and　aesthetic　backgrounds.　This　paper　aims　to

explore　the　underlying　aesthetic　values　and　the　impact　of　cultural

factors　on　the　translation　of　English　literature　between　China　and　the

United　States.

1.　Cultural　Factors　in　Translation

Translation　of　literature　involves　the　interplay　of　multiple　cultural

factors　that　shape　the　aesthetic　values　embedded　in　a　work.　Culture

determines　one，s　perception，　understanding，　and　appreciation　of

literature.　When　translating　English　literature　into　Chinese，　it　is

important　to　consider　the　cultural　aspects　that　may　differ　between　the

two　languages.　For　example，　Chinese　culture　places　more　emphasis　on
